Anoup Nandra is Principal Dentist at Rock Dental, Wolverhampton, and Edgbaston Dental Centre, Birmingham, with over twenty years’ experience in general and implant dentistry. Alongside his clinical work, he has a strong interest in clinical governance, consent, and the evolving legal and ethical landscape of dentistry.

He is a Fellow of the College of General Dentistry and serves on its Council as the current Vice President and elected West Midlands Representative. He also contributes to the profession regionally through his role on the Birmingham Local Dental Committee.

Qualifications and Education

His qualifications include MFGDP(UK), MJDF RCS(Eng), a Diploma in Implant Dentistry with Distinction from University College London, and an MSc in Implant Dentistry from the University of Central Lancashire. He also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education from the University of Wolverhampton, an Expert Witness Certificate from Cardiff University and Bond Solon, and a Master of Laws in Medical Law and Ethics from Cardiff University.

In addition to achieving Fellowship of the College of General Dentistry, Anoup has recently been awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Professional Appointments

Anoup is Principal Dentist at both Rock Dental and Edgbaston Dental Centre, where he has helped develop multidisciplinary teams, referral services and clinical systems designed to support high-quality patient care.

He serves as a National Mentor in dental implantology and conscious sedation, supporting colleagues with professional development, clinical decision-making and case planning. He has also provided implant training through a number of course providers and has worked extensively as a dental expert witness for solicitors and law firms.

His professional roles reflect a broad commitment to clinical excellence, education, governance and the wider advancement of dentistry.

He has experience with multiple implant systems, including Astra, Ankylos, Nobel Biocare, Straumann and DIO, and provides both surgical and restorative implant treatment. His clinical work includes the assessment, planning and delivery of complex implant and restorative cases, with particular emphasis on careful diagnosis, patient communication and long-term treatment stability.

Anoup also has a special interest in caring for anxious patients, particularly where conscious sedation can help patients access dental treatment in a calm, safe and supportive manner.

Teaching, Lecturing and Publications

Anoup has a longstanding interest in dental education and professional development. He has lectured nationally and internationally on implantology, restorative dentistry, ethics, communication, professional standards and clinical governance.

He has delivered teaching for organisations including the West Midlands Deanery, Tipton Training, 3M, Dentistry Live and international conferences in South Korea. He has also published in the British Dental Journal and Primary Dental Journal, and previously served on the Editorial Board of Young Dentist Magazine.

Anoup is actively involved in supporting local dental education and runs a West Midlands study club to help encourage shared learning, clinical discussion and professional development among colleagues.

Achievements

Anoup has been recognised for his contribution to dentistry, clinical care and professional leadership. He was named in Private Dentistry’s Elite 20 in 2014 and won Best Young Dentist Midlands at the Dentistry Awards in 2012.

His practices have won awards for Best Referral Practice (2025) and Best Patient Care (2025) as well as being being finalists for Best Team and Best Practice on multiple occasions. His clinical work has also been shortlisted as a finalist at the Smile Awards. These achievements reflect his commitment to high standards of dentistry, team development and patient-centred care.

Medico-Legal Work

Anoup has acted as a dental expert witness since 2007 and produces approximately 25 medico-legal reports each year. He is trained through the Cardiff University and Bond Solon Expert Witness programme and is instructed by a range of legal firms.

His medico-legal work includes cases involving dental negligence, consent, treatment planning, implant dentistry, restorative dentistry, oral surgery and complex clinical disputes. His clinical background, legal training and interest in professional standards allow him to provide clear, balanced and evidence-based opinions.

Anoup has appeared on ITV and BBC News discussing dentistry and patient care. His media contributions have included topics such as NHS dental access, children’s oral health, diet and dental disease, and broader issues affecting patients and the dental profession.

Outside of Dentistry

Outside of dentistry, Anoup enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He is a keen cricketer and plays for a local team at weekends. He is also currently working hard to improve his golf handicap.

Anoup is a long-suffering supporter of Worcestershire County Cricket Club and Aston Villa FC.
