Gum Disease Treatment in Wolverhampton

Gum Disease, Receding Gums and More

Gum disease has the medical term periodontitis. It is a very serious problem and can cause many significant dental complications such as receding gums. Most worryingly, gum disease will lead to the loss of teeth.

A misleading term, as the disease is not actually a disease of the gums, but the bone underlying the gums. Bugs and bacteria reside in the mouth, and if left to linger will cause the gums to become inflamed (gingivitis). The inflamed gums are difficult to clean and harbour more bacteria in little pockets between the teeth and the gums. Bacteria love to live and breed in these pockets and as a result of this, they begin to destroy the bone surrounding the teeth. This (alveolar) bone supports the teeth, and as a result of the bone being destroyed, the teeth become loose and ultimately need to be removed.

What are the signs and symptoms of periodontitis (Gum Disease)?

If you are suffering from any of the above signs or symptoms, don't delay in seeking care. Contact Rock Dental for an assessment.

Who is at risk of Periodontitis?

There are lots of risk groups. Patients over the age of 40 are a significant risk group. Patients with a reduced immune response such as diabetics often suffer from periodontitis. However, the two major risk groups are smokers and patients that do not visit the dentist regularly.

Periodontitis is not reversible

There is no cure for periodontal disease. It is a lifelong condition, like diabetes. Management of periodontitis is possible, but no (reliable) technique to replace the bone that has been lost exists. For this reason, gum disease must be identified and treated as early as possible.

Receding Gums - Getting long in the tooth

"Getting long in the tooth" is used to describe someone that is advancing in age. This is actually a reflection of the fact that their gums have shrunk away due to gum disease consequently making their teeth appear longer!

Periodontal Treatment

The treatment of gum disease can be complex. Firstly, we will identify risk factors and attempt to remove them. Secondly, we will make sure you are cleaning effectively. Thirdly, we will clean the root surfaces of the teeth in order to make them as bacteria free as possible. If you have any loose or wobbly teeth, they will require removal. In advanced cases, we will need to refer you to a specialist periodontist. You will require regular maintenance and reassessment in the hope that your condition does not worsen.

Had my first appointment yesterday and was extremely impressed by the service I received. The staff were all friendly and knowledgable, the waiting room was clean and comfortable and the consult room was incredibly well equipped. I left feeling very confident with a detailed treatment plan and a clear expectation of costs moving forward. I can honestly say it’s the best experience I’ve ever had a a dentist and I wish I’d gone to this practice sooner! - 9/12/2025

Having broken my crown on Thursday, 19th December 2025 in the morning , I visited the practice hoping that they could help me, especially near Christmas time! The lady at the reception was most helpful saying that I would be able to see someone within 40 minutes, considering that they had appointments during the day. Aran who saw me was very professional in every way, explaining to me what the cause could be. Having a temporary crown fitted on the same day felt like an early Christmas present. I couldn't thank her enough. A credit to Rock Dental and all the team. I wish them a very Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year. - 12/20/2025

    What a pleasant surprise.
    A clean and modern practice.
Staff are courteous and procedures are explained fully, along with any available options.
My only negative is ... I wish I had been made aware of the practice much sooner.

Went to rock house as struggling my nhs dentist to repair my slightly broken filling without them drilling out the entire tooth as they said it was major dental work. Rock house were absolutely brilliant, fitted me in and got it sorted with just a minor repair. Aron was really reassuring and very professional. I was so impressed I’m now moving to them to look after my teeth from now on. - 11/25/2023

I have been a patient of Dr Nandra for many years.
Over this time the standard of care that I have received has always been truly outstanding.
Other members of staff I have encountered, both reception and nursing have been friendly, very helpful and totally professional.

I am so impressed with the treatment I have received at Rock Dental. I was referred by my dentist for periorthodontic treatment.
The appointment process was efficient with periodic reminders by text and email and printed receipts after appointments.
I had my gum graft procedure in March and stitches removed yesterday. Hardeep and his colleague were so gentle and careful when undertaking the procedure, taking the time to explain each stage and ensure I was comfortable.
Whilst the procedure is to strengthen the gum and not regain coverage, it has improved coverage across all the teeth and I think this is testament to their skill and thorough explanation of the aftercare involved.
I am so impressed with the end result and wouldn't hesitate to undertake future treatment here or recommend them to others.

I have been a patient for many years and would not go anywhere else, despite living some distance away. I recently visited the practice for a routine check up and, as always, all the staff are extremely professional, friendly and provide the utmost care possible. The team absolutely went out of their way to accommodate me. This included fitting me in as an emergency on a Saturday morning. I can thoroughly recommend this practice. Thank you Dr Nandra and the team. - 7/24/2019

NHS treatment just wasn’t cutting it. Joined Rock Dental when I hit 30years old and it’s honestly the best thing I’ve done for my health.
Spent a-bit initially to fix and replace some shoddy NHS work (by others) filling replacements and wisdom teeth out. but that alone made me realise how good Rock Dental is.
Dentistry to this team is a passion and an art form. They are pro active on check ups looking ahead for potential issues that may come up and advising how to avoid needing treatment.
Absolutely petrified of the dentists but Rock House was a game changer for me. Should have joined 10 years sooner.

I went for an appointment with Dr Bushell this morning. I must say i was nervous when i got there but he put me at ease straight aways with his personable and calming with his approach. He explained everything that he was going to do and honesty made my experience very pleasant. He explained the dental plan very well which i have now sighed up for. The receptionist helped me set it up and was very warm and friendly. I would like to say a big thank you to all of the staff there. - 3/28/2026

Very welcoming staff at reception who were polite and respectful, unlike other experiences i have had even before being seen by a dentist. The dental treatment which was complex was performed with excellence and more professionally.
The practice itself was very clean and modern having the latest equipment to provide a pleasant patient experience.

Overall amazing experience from the first phone call with my enquiry being answered polity and professionally to the numerous reminders via text email and phone call (this was a lifesaver and much appreciated) the waiting room is clean and tidy. Then into my appointment now I’m not a fan of dentists but Dr Aron was calming from the moment I walked in explained everything that she was doing and even managed to get me to have a deep clean/ scale and polish (first and last one of these was 14 years somewhere else). I’ve never been happier with the look of my teeth and this is only the first visit. - 9/19/2023

Great practice with very professional staff. Dr Nandra and his team always put my family at ease about trips to the dentist and even my 2 under 5 now enjoy their visits which is a result given they wouldn’t even go into the room on their first trip! Could not recommend the practice enough. - 7/23/2019

Have been a patient at rock house for a few years now (my wife too). We find them to be professional, polite and outstanding. The reception team are friendly and very knowledgeable. I recently had a root canal procedure and was feeling quite nervous, the team at rock house recognised this and called me several times to talk through the procedure (calls from clinician/dentist/reception).
When I came for the treatment I felt quite good about having it done based on all previous conversations. This is something I’ve never had at previous dental surgeries. Rock dental is “THE” practice to be.

I’m normally an anxious patient, but I had such a great experience at Rock Dental. The staff was really lovely and made me feel welcome right away. Damini, the hygienist, took care of me and was amazing, she and her nurse made sure I wasn’t feeling any discomfort and kept checking in throughout. I felt genuinely cared for and so much more at ease than usual. Highly recommend!!😁 - 7/01/2025

I’ve been with Rock Dental for a long time. Today I went for a review of a root canal done last year by Dr Kristlee Fernandes. When it was done I couldn’t believe how painless the whole procedure had been. Kris put me at ease and was very gentle. All went well at today’s review so I know he did an excellent job. The practice is now at its new location (273 Tettenhall Road, Wolverhampton), which is beautifully appointed, spacious, warm and welcoming. All the staff are so friendly and helpful. - 12/15/2023
