Botox injection for the treatment of hyperhidrosis and excessive sweating
Botox injection is a simple and long lasting treatment. So much so, you won't believe how simple and easy it is. It is a life-changing procedure for many patients as it works so well. The treatment works similarly to Botox treatments for facial lines and wrinkles, in that it works by blocking nerve impulses.
The most frequent areas that undergo treatment are the underarms and palms. Treatment takes only 10 minutes and involves an injection of tiny needles into the areas. Painless, quick, effective and, will last 6-12 months. Most importantly, this treatment is non-permanent and very safe. The botox remains at the injection site as it does not spread to any other parts of the body.
The treatment has helped millions of people that suffer from excessive sweating. But it can also be used for less serious cases of sweating. As such, patients are also having botox injections to treat sweating for big events like weddings. Lots of people want to be free of sweat on their big day! Any side effects of Botox injections for sweating?
Botox for underarm sweating is a delicate procedure with no significant side effects at all. Even though there may be a little bit of tenderness and bruising, this is never significant. When treating the hands there is a slight risk of local muscle weakness.
What is hyperhidrosis?
It is an individual diagnosis. There is no set limit to as how much sweating is too much sweating and therefore, no set limit of sweating that warrants treatment. You decide if regular excessive sweating interferes with your daily life. Therefore, you decide when you need treatment.
Wet stains on clothing, clammy hands, damp feet - these are all signs of excessive sweating. In some cases, patients will even shy away from shaking hands with others due to sweaty clammy hands.
Patients also seek treatment when the sweating is not bad enough to be called excessive. It's a lifestyle choice. Many patients just prefer to be sweat free.
What causes hyperhidrosis?
There are two types of hyperhidrosis, primary and secondary.
Primary hyperhidrosis
This occurs without any definite cause so is difficult to cure. There are treatments that can help.
Secondary hyperhidrosis
Often brought on with certain medications, pregnancy or low blood sugar levels. This is easier to treat as many of the causes are reversible.
How can you reduce excessive sweating?
- Wearing looser clothing
- Opting for white or black colours, which, hide sweat marks
- Choosing natural fabrics as opposed to, man-made fibres
- Cutting back on alcohol and spicy foods
Can deodorant help excessive sweating?
Deodorants don't help much but, antiperspirants work better. In severe cases, your GP will prescribe you a stronger antiperspirant to block the sweat gland.

Had to have an emergency appointment, followed up with an extraction. They were really accommodating and sympathetic, I got treatment really promptly.
